Mitchell Josef Santner, born on February 5, 1992, in Hamilton, New Zealand, is a professional cricketer renowned for his all-round abilities as a left-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He attended Hamilton Boys' High School, where he was part of the first XI cricket team. 

Santner's domestic career began with Northern Districts, where his performances in the 2014–15 season caught the attention of national selectors. Following Daniel Vettori'

s retirement after the 2015 World Cup, New Zealand sought a left-arm spin option, leading to Santner's inclusion in the squad for the tour of England. He made an immediate impact with a well-crafted 94 against Somerset. 

He made his One Day International (ODI) debut on June 9, 2015, against England in Birmingham, followed by his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut on June 23, 2015

, against England in Manchester. Santner's Test debut came on November 27, 2015, against Australia in the inaugural day-night Test match in Adelaide, where he contributed scores of 31 and 45 and took two wickets. 

Santner has been a key figure in New Zealand's limited-overs teams, known for his economical bowling and useful contributions with the bat. He was part of the squad that finished as runners-up in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. In November 2020, he captained New Zealand for the first time in a T20I against the West Indies. In December 2024, he was appointed as New Zealand's permanent white-ball captain. 

In domestic T20 leagues, Santner has played for teams like the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was known for his economical bowling and lower-order batting. 

Off the field, Santner is known for his calm demeanor and is nicknamed "Flatline" and "Slinky." He has a brother named Elliot Santner. His hobbies include playing golf. 

As of December 2024, Santner continues to be a vital player for New Zealand, contributing significantly with both bat and ball across all formats of the game.
